What we see in urgent visits
If you’re worried, come in. These are the most common reasons owners book a same-day slot.
Vomiting & diarrhea
Especially if it’s been more than 24 hours, has blood in it, or your pet is acting unwell between episodes.
Limping & swelling
New limping, painful joints, hot or swollen areas, or any reluctance to walk, jump, or be touched.
Eye or ear pain
Squinting, redness, discharge, scratching, head-shaking, or any sudden vision change.
Allergic flare-ups
Hot spots, sudden facial swelling, hives, intense scratching, or chewing at paws and skin.
Skin & wound care
Cuts, abscesses, bite wounds, or unexplained sores that aren’t healing.
ADR — “ain’t doing right”
Lethargy, hiding, not eating, abnormal urination. You know your pet best — trust your gut.
What to expect
A same-day urgent visit takes about 30–45 minutes. We do a thorough exam, talk through what you’re seeing at home, and recommend any diagnostics that would actually change the plan — not a blanket panel.

Always call us first — most concerns can be handled in our urgent visit slots, and we’ll tell you honestly if it’s something more time-critical. When that’s the case, we have a direct line to MASH (Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital) that lets us transfer your pet straight to their ER doctor, skipping the standard intake queue. Coming to us first usually saves time at the ER, not loses it.

What is the difference between urgent care and the ER for pets?
ER is for life-threatening emergencies: not breathing, hit by a car, bloat, seizures over 5 minutes, toxin ingestion, blocked cat. Urgent care is for problems that need attention today but are not life-threatening: ear infections, wounds, GI upset, itchy skin, minor limping. Do I need an appointment for urgent care at Paw Priority?
We prefer you call ahead so we can hold a slot, but walk-ins are welcome during clinic hours. We hold same-day urgent care appointments open every day for this exact reason.
What symptoms should I bring my pet in for today?
Same-day appointments make sense for: vomiting or diarrhea more than 12 hours, not eating for 24+ hours (48 for dogs), limping, ear pain or head shaking, eye redness or squinting, a new lump you can feel, minor wounds, straining to urinate, or anything that feels wrong to you but is not clearly an emergency.

What does an urgent care visit cost?
